NinjaTrader 8 offers a flexible trading experience with powerful tools and customizable features. Below are several tips to enhance your trading workflow using NinjaTrader 8.

How to: Adjust Trade Execution Display on Your Charts

If you prefer not to see your order executions plotted on your chart, you can customize or disable them by following these steps:

  • Open the Data Series Settings by clicking the Data Series button on your chart, or right-clicking the chart and selecting “Data Series...”
  • Scroll down to the “Plot Executions” option.
  • Choose your preferred setting:
    • Text and Marker – Displays an arrow and text with execution details.
    • Marker Only – Displays only the arrow.
    • Do Not Plot – Hides all execution markers.
  • Click “OK” to apply your changes.

This setting can be applied to any individual chart.

How to: Add a Futures Instrument in NinjaTrader 8

  • Open the Control Center and go to the Tools menu.
  • Select Instrument List.
  • In the Lists column, choose Futures.
  • Click Add at the bottom of the Instruments column.
  • Enter the symbol and contract (format: CL 05-17 for May 2017 Crude Oil).
  • Press Enter, then click Apply and OK.

You can now trade, launch a chart, or open a DOM using the added instrument.

How to: Use the Auto Rollover Feature

NinjaTrader alerts you when it's time to switch to a new contract month:

  • You’ll receive a pop-up with the current and upcoming contract details.
  • Ensure the “Update” boxes are checked for the contracts you want to roll over.
  • Click “Done” to complete the rollover.

Stay updated by using the latest NinjaTrader version. You can also plan ahead by checking the Trade Desk Calendar.

How to: Reset Instruments

  • Open the Control Center.
  • Go to Tools > Database.
  • Click Update under Update Instruments List.
